New Season, First Meeting

Hello everyone!

Our first meeting of the year will be an informational meeting after school on Tuesday, September 13th in room C104.

As a reminder, we are competing in the World Cup this fall! If you wish to compete on the World Cup team, we’re going to ask that you come to as many practices as you can and work as hard as is possible! We want to be the best possible team, and to do that, it’s going to take a lot of effort and dedication on your part.

Please don’t be discouraged, though! This year is going to be tons of fun, and I hope you all look forward to it as much as I do!

World Cup

Hello, muggles!
Apparently there has been some confusion on the issue, so I will clarify: We have confirmed our spot for next year’s World Cup.
The dates are November 12-13, and the location is Randall’s Island in New York.

Tuesdays and Wednesdays

Hey there everyone!

Starting next Wednesday (5/11, NOT TOMORROW), we will be meeting twice a week for practices.

Tuesdays will still be devoted to our scrimmages, but on Wednesdays we will start doing some actual drills and practices to improve our skills.
On another note, I just want to remind everyone who can to bring $10 to next meeting on Tuesday for our World Cup Registration.

No Quidditch Tomorrow

Hey everyone,

In case you haven’t already heard, we will not be meeting tomorrow.

In view of the recent tragedy that has affected us all, we have decided to suspend Quidditch meetings indefinitely. Many of us will need some time to recover before we feel up to playing again, and I expect that you will all be there to support any of our teammates and friends if they are in need.

Curling Event

Hey everyone!
In case you have not heard, there will be a schoolwide curling event from 2-6 pm on Saturday, March 12th. Everyone is welcome!
Cost is $40 per person and includes: Bus transportation, 2 hours of Curling with certified curling instructors, Hot Chocolate and Snacks. The Bus will pick up and drop off at the DHS Flagpole.

How to Curl: Briefly, the game involves members of the team shooting (sliding) 42 lb. polished granite stones down a 146 ft. long sheet of ice helped by the sweeping of teammates to melt the ice and control the distance and direction of the stone. Closest stones to the target score points. The typical game consists of eight ends (innings).

Parents and siblings are welcome. The inner viewing area is heated with tables and chairs that have a full view of the curling sheets but the curling ice is cold so participants are required to dress accordingly.

Please complete the attached DHS Permission Slip and the Nutmeg Curling PARTICIPANT RELEASE and bring both to Mr. Otterspoor in C 104 along with your check for $40 made payable to Darien High School.

curlingforms

Questions stop by C 104 or email sotterspoor@darienps.org
There are only 10 spots left, so if you are interested, make sure to have your forms in to Mr. Otterspoor ASAP!

In other news, for everyone who has been asking when we can continue our weekly Quidditch games… It seems that the snow has been starting to melt! As soon as the courtyard is completely clear, we hope to get our Spring season going. Hopefully, this will be in the next few weeks. I will do my best to keep you all posted!

Winter Season

I would like to start this post by apologizing for my failure to update over the past month. We have not had any games since the Halloween game, but have been continuing with our weekly Tuesday practices.

As the weather begins to get colder, however, it has come to my attention that we will probably not be able to continue playing outdoors in the courtyard all winter.

We will most likely try to book dates in which we can play and practice in one of the gyms; however, this schedule will most likely be somewhat erratic, since we can only use the gym when it is not being used for other sports.

I will try to update this with a schedule of when we are meeting in the coming months as soon as I can. Until further notice, however, we will continue meeting Tuesdays directly afterschool and playing in the courtyard.

Game Tomorrow!

In case you all are unaware, tomorrow is our big game! Please come directly to room C104 right after school, and bring friends! BRING YOUR OWN BROOM!

If you all like, you can dress up tomorrow, as some of us are doing. We are wearing capes, facepaint, shorts, kneesocks and will be carrying our brooms with us all day. You can join us in room C104 in the morning if you would like to prepare with us, as well as to apply some facepaint.

Also, tomorrow we will be filmed by  News 12 Connecticut, in addition to the story being covered by the Darien Times! It’s going to be a lot of fun, so be prepared for a great game!
